newScale Introduces Free IT Service Catalog Test Drive with Templates and Tools for Service Definition

November 03, 2009 -- SAN MATEO, Calif., BUSINESS WIRE --

newScale, Inc., the market leader in IT Service Catalog and Service Portfolio Management software solutions, today announced the availability of a free trial for newScale PortfolioCenter' ' Workgroup Edition.

This no-risk, no-commitment trial provides access to a Web-based portal with dozens of pre-defined Service Catalog templates and service design tools for the non-technical user. Trial participants can be editors rather than authors, using these examples to dramatically shorten their time-to-market for a Service Catalog. Within days, they can publish an online IT brochure to communicate their IT organization's portfolio of standardized service offerings to the business.

"Many IT organizations are realizing that the service catalog is a central communication and visualization tool where IT and the business come together. First, the catalog should list the services that IT readily offers to the business," wrote Evelyn Hubbert, principal analyst, and Glenn O'Donnell, senior analyst, Forrester Research, Inc. (Source: Service Catalog ' Your Prerequisite For Effective IT Service Management, Forrester Research, Inc., October 28, 2009). "By establishing a service catalog, business stakeholders understand IT's service offerings and the associated prices and delivery options.'

The Service Catalog is widely recognized as the cornerstone for any ITIL program and the starting point for IT cost transparency. But many organizations get stuck in this first step, spending countless hours and wasted resources trying to define services from scratch in a static document. This new trial includes pre-built templates and easy-to-use tools to quickly define standardized service offerings and promote them in a professional online IT brochure. Relationship managers or business users can then browse or search the catalog of offerings and view the descriptions, images, prices, tiers of service, and other details for each offering.

The newScale PortfolioCenter Workgroup Edition trial is available now to qualified prospects at www.newscale.com/pc_trial. The trial provides online Web-based access to newScale software and guided tutorials to provide a complete evaluation experience:

  • Each trial participant receives a private, hosted instance of newScale PortfolioCenter Workgroup to define their organization's IT service offerings.
  • Self-paced tutorials show how to get started with building a Service Catalog in easy to follow, step-by-step instructions.
  • Pre-built service offering templates and components can be reviewed, edited, or reused as necessary during the evaluation.
  • The newScale Support Portal and User Community provide answers to frequently asked questions and peer collaboration.

"We've seen many IT organizations create a static list of services in a Word or Excel document and call it their Service Catalog. In reality, most IT staff never even refer to these static documents ' much less the business users," said Scott Hammond, president and ceo, newScale, Inc. "There is a better way, and now you can try it for free. This new trial program provides a risk-free path to define and publish services in a professional Web-based Service Catalog, promote your ITIL v3 program to key stakeholders, and change the face of IT to the business."

This new solution is part of a complete family of newScale Service Catalog and Service Portfolio Management software products. Each newScale product is designed using the same foundation and service model ' so that users of the trial have the option to upgrade to any of newScale's enterprise-class software products and leverage their existing work.

This means IT organizations can get started now with defining their services in an online IT brochure ' with a goal of making their Service Catalog actionable for service request management; providing a self-service portal for data center automation and virtualization management; or enabling demand planning and invoicing for services.

And, since this release is built on the same proven technology as other newScale products, customers can start with one subset of IT services today (e.g., application hosting or email) and then grow their Service Catalog and Service Portfolio Management deployments to include end-user services such as desktop, facilities and other workplace needs over time.
