http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12492/7214005?cpt=8&wpid=2637 Mon, 18 Dec 2017 04:36:50 +0000 Lawline: Winter Weather Wrecks If you're out on the road in winter weather and have an accident, does your insurance cover you? http://chic.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/12492/7214005?cpt=8&wpid=2637 WAAY ABC Huntsville, AL them out. you send email questions on any topic to lawline@waaytv.com. getting us started michael timberlake is here from siniard, timberlake & league. good to have you here. >> michael timberlake: great to be here. >> sharon doviet: we had winter weather the other day. part of alabama did. if you're out on the road and have an accident, does your insurance cover you? they always say, we closed the road, stay off the roads. if you go driving on that and have an accident, are you covered? >> michael timberlake: you know, it kind of depends. if it's your fault, more than likely your insurance, your liability insurance is going to come in and pick up and pay for any damages to your car. if it is a -- if it's just a single car accident, you drive off the road and end up in a ditch, if you have collision coverage on your own insurance, it will pay for the damages to your vehicle. you may also have medical payments coverage that would pay for any medical bills as a result of any injuries that you received in that wreck. you know, when you're dealing with, you know, liability claims involving bad weather, everybody has an obligation to use reasonable care on the road and respect the road conditions that are present. so just because you could be going 50 miles an hour legally under the speed limit doesn't mean you can go 50 miles an hour if there's snow on the road and you have to make sure that you watch out for other vehicles. so if you're going to drive in less than, you know, ideal conditions, you need to take appropriate precautions, slow down and make sure that you really look out for other vehicles, because they may not be able to
