5AM Solutions Announces Release of Updated CONNECT Gateway for the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange
April 23, 2012 --
Reston, VA (PRWEB) April 23, 2012
5AM Solutions announced today the successful release of the latest version of the CONNECT gateway, an open source initiative led by the Federal Health Architecture (FHA) under the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) in the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The software was developed in partnership with CGI Federal Inc. (CGI), a wholly-owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group, Inc., under contract to FHA, and is available to the CONNECT open source community for download at http://www.connectopensource.org.
CONNECT is a widely adopted open source gateway currently used by organizations participating in the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange; it is used by hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, and government agencies to support the secure, standards-based exchange of health information. The new release of CONNECT 3.3 supports the latest Nationwide Health Information Network specifications, and provides a valuable way for organizations to embrace the next chapter of the healthcare exchange while protecting their existing system investments. Through scalability and performance enhancements, CONNECT 3.3 provides the necessary foundation for larger regional and national rollouts.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Department of Defense (DoD), the Social Security Administration (SSA) as well as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) are currently using CONNECT to interact and exchange health information with thousands of healthcare providers through the NwHIN Exchange which supports approximately one million patients and beneficiaries.
CONNECT is a great success story with federal agencies coming together to build a system that everyone can use and benefit from, said Lauren Thompson, Director, Federal Health Architecture, ONC. The rapidly growing Exchange community of federal agencies, states, health systems and insurers can better serve their patients and beneficiaries by getting the information they need quickly and securely for better clinical decision-making and benefits determination.
Getting health information to people who need it securely and privately will be one of the keys to solving our nations healthcare problems, said Brent Gendleman, President and CEO of 5AM Solutions. CONNECT enables the secure exchange of health information, and as an active open source project, encourages the growing community to build value upon it. 5AM is proud to be part of the effort to facilitate standards-based health information exchange to lower costs and improve healthcare.
