Uber now available at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport By Clip Syndicate Starting today you now have another way to get to and from the Gulfport Biloxi International Airport, but not everyone is welcoming Uber as a new transportation option. This is the new sound being heard at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport now that Uber is allowed for pick up and drop off. Thursday marked the first day the airport opened the door for Uber drivers. Early this morning, they were already lined up, waiting for business. Uber Driver Jennifer Cox said, “We are excited to open up the market more and bring in more potential customers. It actually says on the customer app when they open it in the airport that Uber is available at Gulfport Airport now.” AAA is predicting over 51 million people will be traveling for this Thanksgiving holiday which is one of the highest numbers in over a dozen years. Those with Uber tell News 25 this new service to the airport couldn’t have come at a better time. “The holiday season is coming and we’re going to get a lot more flights in. I really hope they bring in more flights to the airport here during the holiday season and you know, this is Christmas money for a lot of us,” said Cox. Money that long time taxi drivers are afraid they will lose now that Uber is allowed at the airport along with Lyft. Richard Smith with the Gulf Coast Taxi Association said, “Frankly I’m about fed up with the rules and regulations with the taxi cabs that they don’t have on network transportation companies. First off, if you pick up at the airport, you’re supposed to be able to get on both military bases. They can’t get on either one.” Smith says he and other taxi cab drivers believe this makes for an un-level playing field and the move is paving the way to put them all out of business. “I believe in free market competition, but it’s not free market competition when you got rules and regulations on taxi cabs and you have none on network transportation companies.” ...Read More »
