Monroe College Ranked Number One Regional University for Exceeding Predicted Graduation Rates By U.S. News and World Report

Bronx, NY (PRWEB) February 05, 2014

Monroe College, a national leader in urban and international education, today announced that it is the leading regional university for graduation rates that considerably exceeded what would be expected of an educational institution with comparable student demographics, according to U.S. News and World Report. Monroes 2012 actual six-year graduation rate was 65 percent, nearly 40 percentage points higher than the predicted rate of 27 percent calculated by the publication.

U.S. News and World Report predicted the graduation rates based on characteristics of students entering college in the fall of 2006, including ACT and SAT test scores, the proportion of students who were in the top quarter of their class, and the proportion of the student body that received Pell Grants. Calculations were also based on college type, including its status as a public or private institution, and the average financial expenditures per student.

One of the hallmarks of Monroe is ensuring that students receive the individualized support and resources they need to graduate, said Stephen Jerome, president of Monroe College. Being ranked number one for exceeding predicted graduation rates reflects our unparalleled commitment to student success, and evidences not only the dedication of our engaged faculty, but also the ambitious drive of our students.

This is the first time U.S. News and World Report calculated a predicted graduation rate for regional colleges and universities in its 30-year ranking history. To learn more about its ranking methodology, please see here.

Monroe College was also recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as having one of the best online bachelors degree programs in the nation, and the third best in the New York metropolitan area. In September 2013, Monroe was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as the most affordable ranked private college in New York State.

According to an analysis by the New York State Education Departments Office of Research and Information Systems, Monroe College graduated more minority students than any college in New York State in the 2010 academic year.
