First Impression Interactive Supports Obamas Attack of Diploma Mills

Diploma mills are getting the bootat least by President Obama. There are a few bills circulating Congress that address recent concerns about for-profit colleges giving away degrees to military students, but Obama is doing something sooner to address the concerns of many military students and their families.
In a response to complaints about marketing scams and recruiting practices of diploma mills, President Obama signed an order on Friday that would address the problems that military families are experiencing with certain schools who just have an eye for their G.I. Bill benefits. In recent years, the number of schools offering degree programs online has held particular interest to active duty service members, veterans, spouses of military service members and disabled military veterans. However, the Obama administration has recognized that some of these institutions are actually preying upon military families instead of offering what they advertise: legitimate degree programs.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama spoke to troops at the Fort Stewart Army post in Georgia today, where Obama has announced he plans to sign an executive order that will create new protections for military service members. While the new mandates will make it more difficult for post-secondary and technical institutions to misrepresent their programs to military students, the problem is really with the lack of information surrounding these diploma mills. Not all institutions are at fault for this behavior, as proper research can prevent students from falling into a diploma mill trap.
The executive order mainly targets for-profit colleges and universities marketing heavily to military families. The easy access to tuition assistance through the G.I. Bill has made military service members the best targets for these colleges, who like to offer a simple online education. However, there are serious repercussions if a student chooses to buy into a degree program that offers an accredited degree in 10 days. Its simply impossible for this to be a legitimate degree, and President Obama wants veterans, military families, and active duty service members to be protected from these scams.

Military life is already hectic and demanding, and when you pursue a degree at the same time, you expect to get what you pay for. Degrees can offer a better transition into civilian life, amazing benefits and higher pay, but the degree is only as good as the school.
