horace our top story tonight... the midland police department still looking for for their next leader... --after longtime chief price robinson announced his retirement earlier this year... the department now narrowing down the list ..to three. horace city council members held a ..meet and greet this afternoon with those candidates. local two's clarke finney was at that meeting.. and spoke to all three of them.. she leads us off tonight with more. clarke? clarke thats right... two of the candidates are former police chiefs from pennsylvania and missourri.. while the third...is already with midland police. midland city council had the chance to meet with each finalist individually thursday afternoon. one candidate already on the force in midland and two others from out of state are in the running to become the next chief of police. midland deputy chief jeff darr is a thirty year veteran of m-p-d... and he's looking to continue his service in the tall arounduh kind of with the idea that some day i michael brown in ferguson... now...he wants back in. sam dotson: "st. loui was near ferguson and so a lot of the things that happened in ferguson were felt in ripples in st. louis." he says transparency is the most important trait a candidate should have. sam dotson: "it has t be a part of every policing agency and if it's not the agency is not doing as well of a job as they could." and finally...bill heim, former police chief of reading pennsylvania. bill heim: "i'm hoping to bring my experience from the east coast to west texas and kind of meld with everbody else and help move this fine department forward." clarke no word yet on when the final decision will be made but we'll keep you updated as that information is made available. reporting live in the studio...clarke finney local two news. horace turning to some developing news tonight... big spring police have arrested a suspect they say shot and killed ld srling ce oicer and resiting arrest after he tried to keep firefighters from putting the fire out. no injuries or property damage were reported after the incident. katie big bend national park officials confirm a flordia man died wednesday while hiking in the park. we're told 64- year-old kent green collapsed here in the lost mine trail.. c-p-r was performed on him...but efforts were unsuccessful... horace moving down to alpine... today marking one year since sul ross student zuzu verk was last seen... katie local two's kaile hunt talked toul kaile hunt, twitter @kailehunt i went to sul ross university where earlier this year they dedicated an amphitheater for zu verk. and staff members tell me spreading awareness is what they are doing to honor her memory october 12th 20- 16... the last time sul ross student zuzu verk was m-p-d is searching for a missing person.. whereabouts..you are urged to call the midland police department... horace an update out of lubbock tonight... authorities say the suspect charged in monday's deadly texas tech shooting had contact with police ..a day a day earlier -- officers stopped daniels' vehicle to search for a possible stolen gun. however, according to the chief, officers didn't get consent to search the vehicle, and daniels was let go. chief greg stevens / lubbock police: "they asked for consent and that was refused. they entertained whether or not they had enough to to search it without that consent and they did not. there was not enough probable cause to search it on its own - nor to get a warrant for the vehicle." horace the chief didn't say if the stolen gun was the same one used to kill officer east. it's also unclear exactly how or when daniels got a gun before the shooting. east's family releasing a statement tonight.. horace saying in part... "we would particularly like to thank the texas tech faculty, students, staff and community. we are also appreciative of the law enforcement personnel and organizations that have reached out and provided support." katie new at 10 tonight... public backlash from a cancelled odessa cit manager... --as well as suspicious circumstances on tuesday's meeting is forcing them to ask for change. chris wray, concerned community member 9:05-9:19 "the cdc director was dismissed, nothing said. the city manager was dismissed and that wasnt on the agenda so it shouldnt have happened at that meeting.:" bill kappauf, odessa resident 11:17-11:28 "so thats m understanding of it. thats my biggest concern. if folks are meteing outside of city council to predetermine whats going to happen from a vote standpoint thats not looking out for whats best for our citizens." katie the group is working to get three councilmembers removed from the board... --including barbar ruling in favor of the n-f-l against ezekiel elliott... katie ?could he be sidelined for the next 6 weeks? we'll have the latest on the case...
