NCAA Basketball Tourney Boosting Local Business Mon, 20 Mar 2017 02:04:49 +0000 NCAA Basketball Tourney Boosting Local Business NCAA Basketball Tourney Boosting Local Business WEVV dance is underway with teams being knocked out and brackets being busted daily. the ncaa basketball tournament is a cash-cow and even local businesses are getting in the game. 44news reporter lauren leslie is in the studio with how basketball is boosting business. lauren... heather... march madness means basketball, brackets and a whole lot of business for area restaurants and bars. wildcats fans were out in full force today celebrating as their team advances to the sweet sixteen. brackets are busting but business is getting a boost. cathy melton says, "when u-k is here the energy is at the highest." it was a sweet victory for fans who bleed blue. the kentucky wildcats knocking out kansas wichita state to advance to the sweet 16. march madness is putting area restaurants and bars to the test... cathy melton says, "you have fan after fan that will come and stay and wait, whether they have a table or don't have a table they will join others at tables and the energy that they bring to mr. b's is amazing." servers at mr. b's say it isn't just u-k fans either -- the tri-state fan base is far and wide... and during basketball season it's the fans that keep tables turning. cathy melton says, "when the game is over they usually clear out so as soon as the game is over about 15 minutes the entire is restaurant with the exception of about 3 tables was empty and here we are now full again." across the river in the hoosier state -- carson's brewery is tapping into its customer base. owner jason carson grew up in the bluegrass and has the wildcats going all the way. jason carson says, "it kind of got me hooked back in the day so i'm still bleeding blue." carson says with i-u out of the tournament all together indiana basketball fans are showing up but in smaller numbers. jason carson says, "but they are excited at the same time they're getting a new coach.they feel like you know he was the reason they weren't doing so well, but i would say out attendance is down a little bit just because of the lack of indiana playing but there are several other indiana schools that are in it, you know the butler, notre dame, purdue, so we've seen some of those fans come in." u-k will take on the winner of the u-c-l-a, cincinnati game which just tipped off minutes ago. u-c-l-a is up at last check 8-2.
